            Cabin

For a peaceful retreat, Othala Valley Cabin near Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin is a magical wooded hideaway convenient to many Southern Wisconsin tourist attractions.

Watch wild deer & turkeys, discover flowers, picnic along our babbling creek, hear a world class symphony of birds & frogs, relax under towering pines, and snack on wild berries and apples. During your stay we invite you to also explore our organic gardens, visit our dairy goats and heritage chickens, roast marshmallows around a camp fire, or just simply enjoy our beautiful valley.

The charming cabin was originally built as a vacation retreat for the original owners.  They fell so in love with the valley that they decided to make it a permanant home.  They built what today is our residential home.  The cabin remains now for your get-away.

The cabin is a one-room dwelling with an attached full bathroom.  It has two queen beds, a sitting area with a woodburning stove, and a fully furnished kitchen.  It is on our residential property, but is a separate building from our house.  Other than our home, you are completely surrounded by woods and a little bit of open lawn--completely secluded from town and other buildings.  The cabin is also well set back off the country road that we live on.

The name of this secluded valley--Othala (Oh-thah'-luh) was chosen to embrace the property's Norwegian roots.  It is the last letter or rune in the old Norse alphabet and it means "home and wisdom of the ancestors".
